Central Ohio Center for Economic Education

BIG NEWS! The Stock Market Game™ Comes to Ohio- The Central Ohio Center is switching from the Stock Market Simulation to the Stock Market Game™ starting this fall. In making the decision to change stock markets programs, we solicited feedback from teachers and evaluated the features of both the SMS and SMG websites. Based on this, we determined that The Stock Market Game™ program would provide a better educational experience for both students and teachers. Together with our fellow Centers for Economic Education throughout Ohio, and our Foundation for Investor Education (FIE) and Newspaper in Education partners, we look forward to offering you this terrific program! Please visit our SMG page for more information and to learn about prizes.

The Central Ohio Personal Finance Teachers Academy - The Central Ohio Teachers Academy was a smashing success! This two-day program for high school teachers was completely full, with a waiting list containing twice as many individuals as there were seats at the Academy. Below are some photos of the Academy participants, and their comments:

Above: Teachers participate in one of several activities they can use in the classroom to teach key economics and personal finance concepts.
Above: A trio of teachers share a laptop, exploring through one of the many free multimedia resources provided as a part of the workshop.
"This workshop provided a whole host of materials that are great!"
"Great Handouts and Resources!"
"Thank you so much! I learned a lot and am excited to incorporate this into my (classroom) presentations."
"This was an EXCELLENT conference! Thank You for compiling this amazing resource 'bank.' We appreciate the investment you've made in us and our students."

And on the subject of thanks, we would like to thank the Ohio Treasurer of State, Richard Cordray, for approaching the Central Ohio Center and our statewide affiliate, the Ohio Council on Economic Education, with the idea for the Personal Finance Teachers Academies. We'd also like to recognize the Ohio Department of Education for providing the funding that enabled us to go forward with the Teachers Academy, and State Farm Insurance for providing us exemplary classroom space and support for the two-day program.
