"...The only organization serving the economic education needs of Central Ohio teachers and students."
About Us
The Central Ohio Center for Economic Education is a non-profit organization, presently housed at the Ohio State University — College of Education. OSU has been home to the Center since we began operations in 1978.
| COCEE is one of eight university-based Centers for Economic Education affiliated with the Ohio Council on Economic Education, and one of nearly 250 Centers affiliated with the National Council on Economic Education. COCEE serves public, private, parochial, and home schools in Coshocton, Delaware, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Madison, Morrow, and Union Counties. We are the only organization serving the economic education needs of Central Ohio teachers and students. | ![]() |
Our Purpose
The Center’s purpose is to promote greater understanding of basic economic principles and financial issues, primarily (but not exclusively) by providing assistance and training to local school districts and teachers. We operate our programs based on four well-established principles:
- Consumers must be able to sort out fact from fiction when making decisions.
- Workers need to realize how their productivity affects their standard of living and their ability to compete in the marketplace.
- Voters must be able to understand how a proposed policy will affect our economy and society in order to make an informed choice.
- An economically literate public is critical to effective citizenship.
Mission
The mission of the Central Ohio Center for Economic Education is to advance the economic and financial literacy of primary and secondary age children in Central Ohio. By accomplishing this mission COCEE will enable these Central Ohio children to use that literacy as a tool in their lives as responsible citizens and effective participants in a global economy.
To advance this mission COCEE will teach teachers how to instruct economic and financial literacy, and will promote the teaching of this literacy to curriculum setting education professionals, parents, and other interested parties. In order to accomplish its mission COCEE must meet the goal of getting economic and financial literacy taught and learned in the classroom and other locales.
